Computer Shortcuts are simple, short and easy commands that makes tasks faster for us to do using just our keyboard.
We’ll be enumerating all the computer shortcuts we have on our list.
Windows Keys Computer Shortcuts and their functions
The following are windows keys shortcuts and their functions on Windows Operating System.
These shortcuts apply when the windows key is pressed together with the other keys.
- Win+ A – Launches the Action Center.
- Win+ B – Opens the hidden icon drop bar on the taskbar.
- Win+ D – Shows desktop.
- Win+ E – Launches File Explorer.
- Win+ F – Launch the Feedback window.
- Win+ G – Open Game bar.
- Win+ H – Shares a screenshot of supported applications.
- Win+ I – Launches the Settings app.
- Win+ K – Connect to wireless display and audio devices.
- Win+ L – Lock PC screen.
- Win+ M – Minimize all opened windows.
- Win+ P – Project screen.
- Win+ Q – Quick Assist. It does the same function as Win + S.
- Win+ R – Run a program.
- Win+ S – Search for files, documents, apps and settings; opens quick assist. It does the same function as Win + Q.
- Win+ T – Navigate through the programs in taskbar.
- Win+ U – Launch Ease of Access Center/Utility Manager.
- Win+ X – Opens quick links menu. Similar to right clicking on the Windows Start Icon
- Win + Tab – Navigate through open apps and switch or create desktop.
- Win+ Shift + M – Open all minimized windows.
- Windows + Spacebar – Change language and keyboard layout.
- Windows + Up Arrow – Maximize current window.
- Windows + Down Arrow – Minimize current window.
- Windows + Left Arrow – Maximize current window to the left side of the screen.
- Windows + Right Arrow – Maximize current window to the right side of the screen.
- Windows + Home – Minimize all windows except the current window.
- Windows + Ctrl + Spacebar – Change to previous option of language and keyboard layout.
- Win + 1 – Start the first application that is pinned to the taskbar, if the application is open, it will switch to the application.
- Win + 2 – Start the second application that is pinned to the taskbar, if the application is open, it will switch to the application.
- Win + 3 – Start the third application that is pinned to the taskbar, if the application is open, it will switch to the application.
- Win + 4 – Start the fourth application that is pinned to the taskbar, if the application is open, it will switch to the application.
- Win + 5 – Start the fifth application that is pinned to the taskbar, if the application is open, it will switch to the application.
This is applicable for other numbers, simply press the windows key + the number of the program position.
- Win + Shift + 1 – Start the first application that is pinned to the start menu, if the application is open, it will switch to the application.
- Win + Shift + 2 – Start the second application that is pinned to the start menu, if the application is open, it will switch to the application.
- Win + Shift + 3 – Start the third application that is pinned to the start menu, if the application is open, it will switch to the application.
- Win + Shift + 4 – Start the fourth application that is pinned to the start menu, if the application is open, it will switch to the application.
- Win + Shift + 5 – Start the fifth application that is pinned to the start menu, if the application is open, it will switch to the application.
This is applicable for other numbers, simply press the windows key + shift + the number of the program position

Shift Keys Shortcuts and their functions for Windows
The following are shift keys shortcuts and their functions on Windows Operating System.
These shortcuts apply when the shift key is pressed together with the other keys.
- Shift + 10 – Show shortcuts menu for current program.
- Shift + Delete – Permanently delete an item without it entering recycle bin.
Control keys Shortcuts and their functions for Windows
The following are control keys shortcuts and their functions on Windows Operating System.
These shortcuts apply when the control key is pressed together with the other keys.
- Ctrl + Esc – Launches the Windows Start Menu.
- Ctrl + Alt + Delete – Terminates a program, reboot operating system, shut down, lock system, launch task manager, switch user, sign out, access the ease of access center and connect to wireless networks.
- Ctrl + A – Select All
- Ctrl + B – Bold text for compatible documents.
- Ctrl + C – Copy text or document.
- Ctrl + R – Refresh page.
- Ctrl + V – Paste text or document.
- Ctrl + X – Cut text or document.
- Ctrl + Y – Redo last Undo.
- Ctrl + Z – Undo last action.
- Ctrl + Alt + Tab – Navigate between open app, program and windows.
Alt Keys Computer Shortcuts and their functions for Windows
The following are alt keys shortcuts and their functions on Windows Operating System.
These shortcuts apply when the alt key is pressed together with the other keys.
- Alt + F4 – Close all apps, programs and windows.
- Alt + Tab – Switch between open apps, programs and windows.
- Alt + Enter – Show properties of highlighted file or documents. Similar to right-clicking.
- Alt + Spacebar – Show shortcuts for current program.
- Alt + Left Arrow – Go back to previous page. Commonly used in browsers.
- Alt + Right Arrow – Go forward. Commonly used in browsers.
- Alt + Page Up – Scroll up to the first page of a document or page in a browser.
- Alt + Page Down – Scroll down to the last page of a document or page in a browser.

Control Keys Shortcuts and their functions
The following are control keys shortcuts and their functions in Microsoft Office; word, excel, access etc.
These shortcuts apply when the control key is pressed together with the other keys.
- Ctrl + A – Select / Highlight all texts or objects.
- Ctrl + B – Bold or Un-bold texts.
- Ctrl + C – Copy text or objects.
- Ctrl + D – Duplicate objects.
- Ctrl + E – Align text to the center.
- Ctrl + F – Find texts in a document.
- Ctrl + G – Go to a line, page, bookmarks, section, line, comments, footnotes, endnote, field, table, object and heading in a document.
- Ctrl + H – Find and Replace texts in a document.
- Ctrl + I – Italicize and Un-italicize texts.
- Ctrl + J – Justifies texts. Distributes your texts evenly between margins and make it look more neat.
- Ctrl + K – Inserts hyperlink.
- Ctrl + L – Align text to the left.
- Ctrl + M – Indents the paragraph.
- Ctrl + N – Opens a new document.
- Ctrl + O – Opens a file, URL, document and image.
- Ctrl + P – Prints current document or page.
- Ctrl + Q – Does nothing.
- Ctrl + R – Align text to the right.
- Ctrl + S – Saves current document.
- Ctrl + U – Underline text.
- Ctrl + V – Paste text or document.
- Ctrl + W – Closes or Exits a document, program, tab or window.
- Ctrl + X – Cut text or document.
- Ctrl + Y – Redo last Undo.
- Ctrl + Z – Undo last action.
- Ctrl + = – Type very small letters just below the line of a text; it makes a text to be subscript.
- Ctrl + Shift + + – Type very small letters just above the line of a text; it makes a text to be superscript.
- Ctrl + > – Increases a text size and makes the text a little bit bigger.
- Ctrl + < – Decreases a text size and makes the text a little bit smaller.
- Ctrl + * – Shows hidden formatting symbols and paragraph marks.
- Ctrl + Shift + C – Formats painter; copies the attribute or properties of a text or object.
- Ctrl + Shift + V – Formats painter; pastes the attribute or properties of a text or object.
Alt Keys Shortcuts and their functions for Microsoft Office
The following are ALT keys shortcuts and their functions in Microsoft Office; word, excel, access etc.
These shortcuts apply when the alt key is pressed together with the other keys.
- Alt + F – Enter the file menu.
- Alt + G – Enter the design menu.
- Alt + H – Enter the home menu.
- Alt + M – Enter the mailings menu.
- Alt + N – Enter the insert menu.
- Alt + P – Enter the layout menu.
- Alt + Q – Enter the hint menu or ask questions related to Microsoft Office.
- Alt + R – Enter the review menu.
- Alt + S – Enter the references menu.

- Shift + Up directional key – Highlight above texts.
- Shift + Down directional key – Highlight below texts.
- Shift + Right directional key – Highlight texts to the right.
- Shift + Left directional key – Highlight texts to the left.

- Ctrl + D – Bookmark current webpage.
- Ctrl + I – View saved bookmarks.
- Ctrl + J – View downloads.
